Gram (+) Diseases

Alpha-toxin major toxin in gangrenous mastitis which causes smooth muscle spasms, releases prostaglandins, impairs macrophages.
Beta-toxin toxin that damages cell membrane
Exfoliative Toxins toxin that causes Scalded Syndrome in humans.
Entertoxin toxin that causes food poisoning in humans
Endotoxins toxin that causes Toxic Shock Syndrome
Staphylococcus aureus sheep: mastitis, tick pyaemia, benign folliculitis in lambs dermatitis. goats: mastitis, dermatitis poultry: arthritis, septicemia in turkeys, amphalitis in chicks, bumblefoot.

Staph in humans causes food poisoning and skin infections that are Methicillin resistant, non-responsive in 95% cases of using Penicillin..
Staph. hyicus Greasy Pig Disease
Botrymycosis unusual host response to common bacteria, can involve Staph or others. Characterized by pyogranulomatous inflammation in horses.
Staph. pseudointermedius similar to Scalded Skin Syndrome but in dogs, causes various pyogenic conditions in cats.
Streptococcus equi Strangles (horses)
Streptococcus suis Meningitis (pigs)
Strep. agalactiae/dysgalactiae/uberis Mastitis (cows)
Strept. equi subspecies zooepidemicus mucosal commensal in horses and infections many species.
Strep. suis causes significant losses in pig industry.
Strep. pyogenes Scarlet Fever, septic sore throat rheumatic fever, impetigo, acute glomerulonephritis (humans)
Strep. canis causes generalized infections in dogs and feline abscesses/mastitis/kitten septicemia, and Toxic Shock in humans.
Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis causes chronic abscesses on the limbs and abdomen (onion ring appearance, greenish purulent)
Corynebacterium renale Cystitis and pyelonephritis (cattle)

Corynebacterium ulcerans Pharyngitis (humans), mastitis (bovine)
C. bovis commensal of bovine udder that grows during lactation.
Rhodococcus equi Suppurative Bronchopneumonia (foals)
Actinomyces bovis Lumpy Jaw (cattle)
Nocardia asteroides thoracic/cutaneous/disseminated forms. Causes mastitis and abscesses in dairy cows, and abortion in pigs/horses/cows. K9's have thoracic, cutaneous, or disseminated forms.
Dermatophilus congolensis "Rainrot" (horses) and "Strawberry Footrot" (heep)
Listeria monocytogenes Listeriosis
Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae "Diamond Skin" (pigs), erysipelas- infection of the upper layers of skin (sheep and birds)
Bacillus cereus Human food poisoning, gangrenous mastitis in cattle, abortions in cattle/sheep/horses.
Bacillus anthracis Anthrax
Clostridium tetani Tetanus, "lock jaw"
C. botulinum most potent biological toxins known
C. chauvoei Blackleg (cattle & sheep)
C. novyi Infectious Necrotic Hepatitis/Black Disease (sheep & sometimes cattle)
C. hemolyticum Bacillary Hemoglobinuria, "Red Water Disease" (hepatic necrosis)
C. septicum Malignant Edema
C. perfringens type A Gas Gangrene
C. perfringens types A-E Lamb Dysentery, "Struck" (sheep), food poisoning (humans).
C. perfringens type D Pulpy Kidney Disease (sheep)
C. difficile pseudomembranous colitis (humans), chronic diarrhea in dogs and horses, fatal necrotizing enterocolitis (horses). Causes emerging disease in 1-7 day old piglets.
Mycobacterium bovis Tuberculosis (cattle)
M. avium Johne's Disease (paratuberculosis) in ruminants
