Microsporum canis Ringworm
Trichophyton verrucosum most frequent worldwide etiological agent of dermatophytosis in cattle, less frequent in other domestic animals/humans.
Trichophyton equinum rarely attacks humans, causes ringworm in horses and donkeys, occasionally in dogs.
Microsporum gallinae white lesions on the wattle and combs of chickens, may spread to head and neck.
Microsporum nanum most frequently associated ringworm infection in pigs
Aspergillus in poultry causes Brooder Pneumonia in chicks and pneumonia/air sacculitis in chickens. (yellow nodules in lungs, air sacs, etc.)
Aspergillus in horses causes Guttural Pouch Mycosis, is usually unilateral, plaque-like lesions in mucosa.
Aspergillus in dogs causes Nasal Aspergillosis in middle aged dolicocephalic breeds, otitis externa (main sign is nose bleeds- epistaxis)
Aspergillus in cattle causes mycotic abortions, mycotic pneumonia, mycotic mastitis, and has intestinal forms that cause acute or chronic diarrhea in calves.
Candida albicans causes mycotic stomatitis in baby animals, gastro-esophageal ulcers in pigs/foals/calves, rumenitis in calves, enteritis and cutaneous lesions in dogs, reduced fertility in cows, pyometra in mares, cystitis and pyothorax in cats, eye lesions in horses.
Cryptococcus neoformans most common systemic mycosis in cats. Causes growths in nostrils.
Malassezia pachydermatis causes otitis externa, seborrheic dermatitis (over other parts of body) in dogs.
Blsatomycosis infects humans and dogs by aerosol/water level changes. Causes: dyspnea, pyrexia, wt loss, lameness, lymphadenopathy, uveitis, conjunctivitis, prostatitis.
Dyspnea difficult/labored breathing
Pyrexia raised body temperature; fever.
Lymphadenopathy disease affecting the lymph nodes.
Uveitis inflammation of the uvea (pigmented layer of theear)
Prostatitis inflammation of the prostate gland
Histoplasma capsulatum infects dogs and cats. Causes chronic cough, persistent diarrhea, emaciation, will show a mottled white appearance in rads.
Coccidiodes immitis "Valley Fever" infects many species including humans and common in young Usually found in desert soil. Hazardous to culture.
Sporothrix schenckii is zoonotic, causes chronic cutaneous or lymphocutaneous disease which rarely becomes generalized. Causes subcutaneous edema in horses.
Zygomycetes causes sporadic opportunistic infections called Zygomycoses.
Aspergillus flavus causes Aflatoxicosis- vague clinical signs (hepatotoxicity, immunosuppression, mutagenesis, teratogenesis, carcinogenesis.
mutagenesis the production of genetic mutations
teratogenesis the process by which congenital malformations are produced in embryo or fetus.
carcinogenesis the initiation of cancer formation
Claviceps purpurea causes Ergotism- convulsions in acute form, gangrene.
gangrene localized death and decomposition of body tissue
ergotism eroticism; sexual desire
Tremorgen Intoxications causes Ryegrass Staggers
Fusarium graminearum species associated with mycotoxic oestrosgenism
Neophytodium coenophialum causes Fescue Toxicosis
Fusarium monliforme causes Leukocephalomaclacia/Fumonisins B1, B2, A1, A2
Fusarium graminearum causes Oestrogenism/Zearalenone
