TermDefinition
Characters people or animals is a story
Protagonist the main character in the story; often the hero
Antagonist the character who works against the main character; often the enemy or the villain
Character Traits describes the characters personality that make them who they are; can be directly stated or inferred
Dialogue the conversation between characters
Theme the message or lesson the author wants you to learn from the story
Simple Sentence expresses a complete thought; it must have subject and a predicate
Compound Sentence two simple sentences joined together by a comma and a coordinating conjunction
Complex Sentence contains an independent clause and a dependent clause and the dependent clause begins with a subordinating conjunction.
Coordinating Conjunction -a word that joins two simple sentences together to make a compound sentence (FANBOYS)
Subordinating Conjunction connects an independent clause with a dependent clause
Dependent Clause does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone as a sentence
Independent Clause expresses a complete thought and can stand alone by itself as a sentence
