Experimental Design Diagram Vocabulary

TermDefinition
hypothesis an educated guess, or a guess you make based on information you already know.
independent variable a variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure.
dependent variable variable that changes depending on how the independent variable is changed.
constants a quantity having a fixed value that does not change or vary, such as a number.
control a sample that remains the same throughout the experiment.
repeated trials where you measure the same thing multiple times to make your data more reliable.
levels of independent variable the number of experimental conditions.
quantitative focused on measurable observations.
qualitative data that can be observed with our senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing.
