Biomolecule (macromolecule) large polymer molecule needed for life.
Monomer small molecular unit that is the building block of a larger molecule.
Polymer long chain of small molecular units (monomers).
Carbohydrate organic compound made of sugar molecules.
Monosaccharide sugar containing one sugar unit.
Disaccharide sugar containing two monosaccharides.
Polysaccharide long polymer chain made up of simple sugar monomers; also known as complex carbohydrates.
Lipid one of a class of water-avoiding compounds consisting of a three-carbon backbone (glycerol) attached to three fatty acids.
Glycerol molecule made of 3 carbons that serves as the backbone (monomer) of lipids.
Fatty Acid long hydrocarbon chain tails that serve as monomers of lipids.
Hydrophobic avoids water molecules.
Hydrophilic attracts water molecules.
Triglyceride a lipid made of one glycerol and three fatty acid tails found in foods.
Phospholipid a lipid that makes up all cell membranes.
Protein polymer constructed from a set of 20 amino acid monomers.
Amino Acid monomer that makes up proteins.
Polypeptide chain of linked amino acids.
