Verbs used to advance literary analysis

| Accentuate | make more noticeable or prominent |
| Elicit | evoke or draw out (a response, answer, or fact) from someone in reaction to one's own actions or questions |
| Enumerate | mention (a number of things) one by one |
| Infer | deduce or conclude (information) from evidence and reasoning rather than from explicit statements |
| Inundate | overwhelm (someone) with things or people to be dealt with |
| Lampoon | publicly criticize (someone or something) by using ridicule, irony, or sarcasm |
| Patronize | treat in a way that is apparently kind or helpful but that betrays a feeling of superiority |
