Understanding the Experimental Process
| Term | Definition |

| Independent Variable | The one factor that you change in an experiment |
| Dependent Variable | the factor or outcome being measured in an experiment |
| Constant | Factors that stay the same and are not changed |
| Control | A standard used for comparison in an experiment |
| Conclusion | Explains your data. |
| Model | Is a representation of an idea |
| Inference | A conclusion drawn based on observations. |
| Observation | Information gathered using your senses |
| Hypothesis | A statement that is tested with an experiment. |
| Scientific Theory | An explanation supported by results of many experts. |
| Scientific Law | Describes the behavior of something in nature. Predicts what will happen in a given situation, but they don's always explain the why it happens |
| Replication | A repetition of an experiment to confirm findings or to ensure accuracy. When you redo the entire experiment. |
| Repetition | Occurs when multiple sets of measurements are made during one scientific investigation. Multiple trials. |
| Data | Information collected during an experiment to analyze. |
