Evolution Process in which populations gradually change over time

Natural selection The process by which individuals that are better adapted to their environment
Adaption a characteristic that improves an individual's ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment
Mutation a change in the nucleotide
Inherited trait a trait given to the offspring an organism
Homologous Structure a similar structure that related species have inherited from a common ancestor
species A group of similar organisms that are closely related and can produce fertile offspring
Biodiversity variety of all living things and their interactions in their ecosystem
Extinction the complete disappearance of a species from Earth
Fossil preserved remains of plants and animals whose bodies were buried in sediments
Vestigial structures an anatomical feature that no longer seems to have a purpose in the current form
Analogous structure features of different species that are similar in function but not necessarily in structure and which do not come from a common ancestral feature
Embryology the study of the formation and development of an embryo and fetus
Anatomy The study of the structure of a plant or animal
Development the process in which someone or something grows or changes and becomes more advanced
