| Cognition | The ability to think logically and clearly. |
| Delegation | The process of assigning part of one’s responsibility to another qualified person in a specific situation. Ps: taking responsibility for your actions. |
| Grooming | Maintaining the person’s appearance. Ex: caring for fingernails, and hair. |
| Hygiene | Keeping the body clean and healthy. Ex: bathing and brushing teeth. |
| Interpersonal Skills | The ability to get along with others while getting the job done. |

| North Carolina Nurse Aide 1 Registry | A registry of all people who meet state and federal training and testing requirements to perform Nurse Aide 1 tasks in the State of North Carolina. |
| Nurse Aide 1 in the State of North Carolina | A valued, unlicensed member of the health care team, responsible for providing delegated nursing tasks within a defined range of function, for residents. |

| Cerebrovascular Accident (CNA or stroke) | When blood supply to the brain is blocked or a blood vessel leaks/breaks. |
| Elopement | When a resident leaves a health care facility without the staff’s knowledge. |
| Hazard | Anything in the resident’s environment that may cause illness or injury. |
| Medical Emergency | A dire situation when a person’s health or life is at risk. |
| PASS | Acronym for using a fire extinguisher P - Pull the pin A - Aim at the base of the fire S - Squeeze the handle S- Sweep back and forth at base of the fire |
| RACE | Acronym to remember in case of a fire R- Remove residents from danger A - Activate alarm C - contain the fire E - Extinguish the fire |

| Resident Unit | the personal space, furniture, and equipment provided |

| Seizure | Involuntary contractions of muscles involving small area or entire body. Abnormal electrical activity in the brain. |
