| Question | Answer |

| List components of Urinary System? | 2 kidneys, 2 ureters, 1 bladder |
| Describe components of Urinary System? | This system is the primary means by which waste products are removed from the blood and excess fluid. |
| What do the kidneys do? | They filter the waste products out of the blood, then return filtered blood back into circulation in the body. The waste is transported to the bladder and released out of the body in the form of urine. |
| What else do the kidneys do? | Release hormones that help control blood pressure, make RBC's, and keep bones strong/healthy. Kidneys maintain healthy balance of water, salts, and minerals in the blood. |
| Name parts of the kidney? | Adrenal gland, cortex, medulla, renal vein, renal artery, and ureter. |
| Adrenal produces what? | It's an endocrine gland on top of kidney. Produces hormones, cortisol, aldosterone, and adrenaline. |
| Adrenal hormones help to do what? | Regulate several bodily functions, metabolism, blood pressure, and body's response to stress. |
| Name parts of the Nephron? | Glomerulus, Bowman's capsule, proximal convulated tubule, distal convulated tubule, loop of henle, collection tubule. |
| Explain formation of urine? | Blood enters Bowman's capsule. Filtered through Glomerulus then into Proximal..slowly passes thru rest of nephron, modified along the way. "Urine" reaches collecting tubules. Ureter to bladder then elimination. |
| Hormone(s) regulating urine volume? | Antidiuretic: chemical produced in the brain, causes kidneys to RELEASE LESS water- decreases amount of U+ produced. Aldosterone: produced in Adrenal Cortex, maintains balance of water and salts in kidney. Keep sodium in/release potassium from body. |
| High levels of Aldosterone causes? | High blood pressure and a build-up of fluid in body tissues. |
| Equipment needed for cysto and catherization? | Syringe with 20 or 22g 1-1.5in needle, ventral abdomen, insert at an oblique angle to decrease possible U+ leakage. |
| What can't you leave urine out for more than 1 hour after collection? | Urine will chemically change, breaks down creating bacteria, turbidty, crystals form, cells break down, color change. |
| Refrigerate urine temp should be? | 4 degrees C or 39.2 degrees F *this delays bacterial growth and crystals. Warm U+ to room temp before testing. pH needs to be done BEFORE refrigerating to be accurate. |
| Polydipsia, Polyuria, Oliguria, and Anauria mean? | Drink more, pee more, pee less, not peeing at all. |
| Rule Out Dz's with U/A such as? | UTI, Renal (kidney) Dz, Cystitis, Diabetes Mellitus, Neoplasia. |
