| theory | a scientific explanation of known facts arrived through repeated testing over time |
| mode | most frequent occurring number in a set of numbers |
| physical science | study of matter and energy |
| precision | the exactness of a measurement |
| controlled experiment | tests only 1 factor at a time and consists of a control group and one or more experimental groups |
| independent variable | what the researcher changes on purpose to see how it will affect the experiment's outcome |
| dependent variable | what is being measured at the end of an experiment |
| control | the "normal" / non treated situation in your experiment |
| hypothesis | a testable idea / explanation that leads to an investigation |
| mean | the average set of numbers; sum of all numbers / amount of numbers |
