cell division and cell cycle

QuestionAnswer
why does DNA replication, cell division , cell growth all have to take place in a coordinated manner? to ensure correct cell division and formation of progeny calls containing intact chromosomes
what is a cell cycle? the sequence of the events by which the cell duplicates its genome , synthesizes other constituents of the cell and eventually divides into 2 daughter cells
is cell growth in terms of cytoplasmic increase continuous? yes
the replicated chromosomes are distributed to the daughter nuclei by a complex series of events , the event are under whose control? they are under genetic control
how much time does a cell approx take to divide 24 hours
Cell cycle is divided into how many number of phases And which are they ? Interphase and m phase also known as mitotic phase
What does the M phase signify or represent ? it represents the actual cell division or mitosis occurring
What is the interphase signify? it signifies the phase between two successive m phases
How much time does M phase and interphase takes in the division ? M phase takes 1 hour and interphase takes around 22.8 or 23 hours
M phase starts with a — and ends with a —? Nuclear division , cytoplasmic division
is interphase actually a resting phase ? what does it do? no , it is the time where the cell is preparing for division by undergoing both cell growth and dna replication
3 phases of interphase g1 s and g2
What is g1 phase ? is the cell metabolically active in this stage?does it grow? it corresponds to the phase between mitosis and dna replication ,cell is metabolically active , it does grow
what is s phase?is the dna double during this time?is there a increase in chromosome number ? marks the phase when dna replication takes place , during this time the dna is double, there s no inc in chromosome number
in animals during s phase what happens in nucleus and cytoplasm? dna replication happens in nucleus and in cytoplasm centriole replicates
what happens during g2 phase? proteins are synthesised for mitosis while cell growth continues
the cells that do not divide further exit -- phase and enter the --- phase which is inactive g1,quiescent stage
are the cells metabolically active in quiescent stage? yes
do they proliferate unless told to do so no
in animals mitosis only occurs in ---------- cells all though there are few exceptions eg----- and plants show mitosis in both --- and --- cells diploid somatic , male honey bees, haploid and diploid cells
