The Restless Earth

| The Core | the centre of the earth which is mainly made of iron and nickel. |

| The Crust | the outer skin of the earth which is solid rock. |
| Folding | a geological process that causes a bend in a stratum of rock. |
| Earthquakes | a sudden slipping or movement of a portion of the earth's crust, accompanied and followed by a series of vibrations. |
| Volcanoes | a mountain formed by volcanic material. |
| Vent | the narrow chute where the magma reaches up on to the surface. |
| Cone | repeated lava flows build up around the vent to form a cone-shaped mountain. |
| Lava | Magma when it reaches the surface. |
| Crater | the top of the volcano where the lava comes out. |
| Focus | the place where the cracks occur during an earthquake. |
| Epicentre | the surface area directly above the focus. |
| Plates | separate sections of the crust. |
| Continental Drift | the way the plates drift slowly. |
