We will explore the world of air masses, fronts, and air pressure

QuestionAnswer
A large volume of air with somewhat the same temperature and moisture content that extends over large areas of land and or water. Air mass
what does it mean if an air mass is marine? it is over water
what does it mean when an air mass is continental? it is over land
A warm, moist air mass that develops in Florida Near equator surrounded by water
A dry, cold air mass that develops in Canada At the poles
A dry, hot air mass that develops in Mexico Near equator (inland)
A cold, moist air mass that develops in...... ocean far from equator
Warm wet summer, hot, humid, thunder storms, hurricanes. Winter mild cloudy weather Maritime tropical
Cold wet with cool foggy summers and moist cold winters with snowstorms. Maritime polar
Warm dry with clear, dry, hot desert like weather in summer and clear mild winters. Continental tropical
Cold, dry with cool refreshing summers and cold windy winters Continental polar
A front moving in the direction of the triangle points with thunder storms, heavy rains, snow, and cool dry air. Cold fronts
A front moving in the direction of half circles with steady rain, clear or hot weather. Warm fronts
A front that forms when neither warm or cool air masses has enough force to push the other. Brings cloudy cool or warm weather depending on location. stationary fronts
A front that moves in direction of triangle points and half circles brings cool weather with tons of rain or snow. Occluded Fronts
Air pressure is measured in Millibars (Mb)
Millibars are..... average air pressure at sea level
On weather maps points where air pressure is the same are connected with lines called .... Isobars
Clockwise winds spiral outward away from center, also called anticyclone, weather is clear/fair High pressure
Counter clockwise winds that spiral inward to center, also called cyclone, gray/stormy weather. Low pressure
Cold dry north, summer is chilly winter is extreme cold Continental Arctic
