Etomidate - Action Rapidly induces anesthesia by depressing the brain stem reticular system.

Etomidate - Contraindication None
Etomidate - Side Effects Apnea, Hypotension, Hypertension, Larynygospasms, Fasciculation, Tachycardia, Bradycardia, Arrhythmias.

Etomidate - Dosage 0.3 mg/kg IV
Etomidate - Clinical Considerations Used in conjunction with paralytics; Duration: 3-8 Minutes, Will need to resedate.
Succinylcholine - Generic Succinylcholine
Succinylcholine - Trade Quelicin
Succinylcholine - Classification Depolarizing Paralytic; Neuromuscular blocking agent.
Succinylcholine - Action Binds to acetylcholine receptors at nerve endings of skeletal muscles to block any response to stimulus, Causes complete relaxation.
Succinylcholine - Indication Induce paralysis for Endotracheal Intubation
Succinylcholine - Contraindication Narrow angle glaucoma, Penetrating Eye Injuries, Inability to intubate the patient. CAUTION - Crush injuries, Increased ICP, Renal failure, Neuromuscular disorders.
Succinylcholine - Side Effects Apnea, Respiratory Depression, Fasciculation, ICP Increase, Hyperthermia, Asystole, Increased intraocular pressure, bradycardia, muscle pain, hyperkalemia, BP Changes, Dysrhythmias.
Succinylcholine - Routes IV, IM, IO
Succinylcholine - Doseage Adult: 1.5 mg/kg IV, Pediatrics: 1-2 mg/kg IV/IO; Can repeat if inadequate relaxation. Lasts 5-16 minutes.
Succinylcholine - Clinical Considerations Have sedation available; Have atropine ready for bradycardia; Avoid in burn patients more than 48 hours old; Chronic neuromuscular disease, ESRD, Situations where hyperkalemia is likely.
Ketamine - Generic Ketamine
Ketamine - Trade Name Ketalar
Ketamine - Classification Sedative, Analgesic disassociate anesthetic.
Ketamine - Action Blocks pain receptors; Minimizes spinal cord activity; Affects pathway of the brain between thalamus and limbic systems.
Ketamine - Indication Excited delirium, Pain management, Procedural sedation.
Ketamine - Contraindication Hypersensitivity, Pregnant / Breast Feeding PT's, Conditions where HTN can be hazardous.
Ketamine - Side Effects HTN, Dysarrhythmias, Bronchodilation, Respiratory Depression
Ketamine - Routes IV / IO
Ketamine - Dosage Adults / Pediatric: 1-2 mg/kg over 1-2 minutes. Onset: 30 seconds; Duration: 5-10 minutes.
Ketamine - Clinical Considerations Enhances: Opiates, Barbiturates, non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents; PT's may experience emergence reaction after full duration of medications effect.
Norcuron - Generic Norcuron
Norcuron - Trade Name Vercuronium
Norcuron - Classification Paralytic, Non-depolarizing skeletal muscle paralytic.
Norcuron - Action Blocks cholinergic receptors and prevents acetylcholine from binding to receptors. Blocks depolarizing and paralyzing the muscle.
Nourcron - Indication Facilitate RSI
Nourcron - Contraindication Inability to Intubate
Norcuron - Side Effects Apnea, Histamine release, Hypotension, Flushing, Tachycardia.
Norcuron - Routes IV
Norcuron - Dosage Adult: 0.1 mg/kg; Pediatrics: 0.25 mg/kg IV / IO
Norcuron - Clinical Consideration Paralyzed 25/30 minutes; Avoid in: Chronic neuromuscular disease. (Ex. Muscular Dystrophy)
