Musical Descriptors
Breaking down all the descriptive words we use for music.

| Noise | Unorganized sounds. Ex: TV static, Cars in traffic |
| Music | Sounds organized through use of pitch and rhythm. |
| Tempo | The speed in which music is performed. |
| Dynamics | The volume at which music is performed. |
| Timbre | The mood/color of tone in performed music. |
| Instrumentation | The combination of instruments used in performed music. |
| Ensemble | The name for a group of musicians, determined by their instruments. Ex: Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir |
| Harmony | The combination of notes, usually forming chords. |
| Articulation | The manner in which sounds are produced. Ex: Short and detached, smooth and connected. |
| Genre | The stylistic category music belongs to. |
| Musical Texture | The manner in which layers of music interact. Ex: monophonic, homophonic, polyphonic |
