evolution the process of change by which new species develop from preexisting species over time

natural selection the process by which individuals that have advantageous traits in their environment survive and reproduce more successfully than individuals without the advantageous trait
fitness measure of an organism's ability to produce offspring
biogeography the study of geographical distribution of living organisms and fossils on Earth
homologous structure body parts on different organisms with similar structure but different functions
analogous structure body parts on different organisms that have different structures but similar function
vestigial structure remnants of an organ or structure that functioned in an earlier ancestor but has no apparent function in living organism
