Identify them on a diagram 1) Sweat glands (All body exept lips, external ear canal, nail bed, clitoris and labia minora) 2) Sebaceous glands (All body except on palm of hands and soles of feet). Explain homeostasis (temperature regulation) If body temperature rises, hypothalamus sends signal to sweat glands to produce sweat and blood vessels dilate (vasodilation), which allows heat to be drawn out of the skin. The body temp. goes back to normal.
What are the 3 diseases of the integumentary system? Skin cancer (uncontrolled growth of skin cells), eczema (red and itchy skin) and alopecia (hair loss)
What are the causes of skin cancer? Exposure to UV light
What are the causes of eczema? Genetics, environment and stress
What are the causes of alopecia? Genetic, stress and hormonal changes
