| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| statistical analysis | Using computations to organize, describe, and make meaning from a set of data, often for the purpose of making a decision. |
| center (statistics) | Where the midpoint of the data lies. |
| spread (statistics) | How the data is distributed. |
| mean (average) | The sum of the terms in a dataset divided by the number of terms in the dataset. |
| Median | The middle number in a dataset when the numbers are arranged in value order. |
| sample (statistics) | A portion of a larger population. |
| population (statistics) | The entire group from which all possible items could be selected and measured. |
| box and whiskers plot | A graphic way to display the median, quartiles, and extremes of a data set on a number line to show the distribution of data. |
| Minimum | The smallest value in the dataset. |
| Maximum | The largest value in the dataset. |
| spread of a set of data | tells how the data is distributed. It gives the range of values in the dataset, and tells us how varied the values are when compared with the median value. |
| Range | The difference between the highest and lowest values in the dataset: |
| middle fifty percent | Where the middle 50% of the data in the dataset is located. |
| Spreadsheet | A document which has data arranged in row and column grids to be used for calculations of data. |
| Function | A predefined formula that is in a spreadsheet program. |
| five number summary (statistics) | The five numbers, calculated from a data set, that are used to summarize the center and spread of the data, as well as construct a box and whiskers plot. |
