| Term | Definition |

| Solute | A substance that dissolves in a solvent |
| Solvent | A substance that dissolves other materials to form a solution |
| Solution | A perfect mixture of a solute and a solvent |
| Mixture | A substance that has been physically combined |
| Saturated solution | A solution that has dissolved as much solute as possible at a given temperature |
| Concentrated solution | A mixture with a large amount of solute in a small amount of solvent |
| Diluted solution | A mixture with a small amount of solute in a large amount of solvent |
| Suspension | A mixture with small liquid or solid particles that are suspended in a liquid |
| Crystals | A solid with a regular shape and the particles are arranged in a regular pattern |
| Crystallisation | The formation of crystals after a hot saturated solution has been cooled |
| Solubility | The solubility of a substance is the mass of it (in grams) that will dissolve in 100 grams of solvent at a fixed temperature |
| Solubility Curve | A graph showing showing how the solubility of a substance varies with temperature |
