| Term | Definition |

| Accuracy | The degree to which a measurement, or an estimate based on measurements, represents the true value of the attribute that is being measured. |
| Chi-Square | Chi-squared tests are a statistical measure that are used to determine whether the difference between an observed and expected frequency distribution is statistically significant. |
| Constant | a quantity that, under stated conditions, does not vary with changes in the environment. |
| Control | an element that remains unchanged or unaffected by other variables |
| Deductive reasoning | the type of logic used in hypothesis-based science --- uses a general principle or law to forecast specific results |
| Dependent Variable | the variable being tested in a scientific experiment |
| Graph | A line or tracing denoting varying values of commodities, temperatures, urinary output, etc |
| Hypothesis | a tentative, testable, and falsifiable statement that explains some observed phenomenon in nature |
| Independent Variable | the variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment |
| Inductive Reasoning | a form of logical thinking that uses related observations to arrive at a general conclusion --- makes observations and records them |
| Mean | the arithmetic average of a set of given numbers |
| Median | the middle score in a set of given numbers |
| Model | a three-dimensional representation of a person or thing or of a proposed structure, typically on a smaller scale than the original. |
| Observation | the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information. |
| Precision | the quality, condition, or fact of being exact and accurate. |
| Prediction | a thing predicted; a forecast. |
| Rate | a measure, quantity, or frequency, typically one measured against some other quantity or measure. |
| Scientific Method | a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. |
| Table | a set of facts or figures systematically displayed, especially in columns. |
| Trend | the general change in a variable with time |
