Symbiosis

TermDefinition
Symbiosis Living things live together in relationships in which at least one organism benefits.
Parasitism A symbiotic relationship where one organism benefits from the association and the other is harmed.
Parasite In parasitism, the organism that does harm is the parasite.
Host In parasitism, the organism that is harmed is the host.
Fleas living on and harming a dog. An example of parasitism.
Mutualism A symbiotic relationship where both organisms benefit from the association.
Good bacteria in a large intestine. An example of mutualism.
Commensalism A symbiotic relationship in which one species benefits and the other species is neither harmed or helped.
Barnacles on a whale. An example of commensalism.
