| energy | the ability to do work |
| decomposer | an organism that breaks down plant and animal matter |
| predator | an animal that kills and eats other animals |
| consumer | an organism that feeds on other living organisms in the food chain |
| producer | organisms that make their own food |
| food web | all the food chains in a single ecosystem |
| food chain | the transfer of energy where one organism eats another organism |
| symbiosis | a relationship between two organisms |
| convert | a cause to change in form or function |
| mutualism | two species benefitting each other |
| parasitism | two species: one benefits at the expense of another |
| commensalism | two species: one benefits and the other is not harmed or helped |
| gravity | the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth |
| force | a push or pull that acts on an object |
| herbivores | an organism that feeds mostly on plants |
| carnivores | an organism that feeds mostly on animals |
| ecosystem | a system that includes all living organisms in an area |
