6-2 Types of Sedimentary Rocks
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Clastic | The most common sedimentary rocks, formed from abundant deposits of loose sediments accumulated on the Earth's surface |
| Coarse-Grained Rocks | Sedimentary rocks consisting of gravel-sized rock and gravel fragments |
| Conglomerate | Transportation rounds and abrades the gravel while particles scrap against each other. Lithification turns them into these. |
| Breccia | Composed of angular, gravel-sized particles - indicates that the sediments from their formation did not have time for their rounding |
| Porosity | Percentage of open spaces between grains in rocks |
| Fine-Grained Rocks | Sedimentary rocks consisting of silt and clay-sized particles |
| Evaporites | Layers of chemical sedimentary rocks formed in arid regions and drainage basins on continents with low water flow |
| Biochemical Sedimentary Rocks | Formed from the remains of once-living organisms |
