TermDefinition
Clastic This is formed from the abundant deposits of loose sediments that accumulate on Earth's surface. The word clastic comes from the Greek word klastos, meaning broken.
Coarse Grained Rocks Sedimentary rocks consisting of gravel-sized rock and mineral fragments are classified as coarse-grained rocks.
Conglomerate Rounded, gravel-sized particles. has relatively large mass, gravel transported by high-energy flows of water(mountain streams, flooding rivers, ocean waves, glacial meltwater). transport= gravel becomes abraded/ rounded as particles scrape against another.
Breccia Composed of angular, gravel-sized particles. The angularity indicates that the sediments from when they formed didn't have time to become rounded. Suggests that the particles were transported only a short distance and deposited close to their source.
Porosity %open spaces between grains in rocks.Loose sand porosity=40%. spaces maintained during formation(sandstone),resulting porosities=30% height. Pores connect, fluids move sandstone.Feature=sandstone layers, valuable=reservoirs oil, natural gas, groundwater.
Fine Grained Rocks Sedimentary with silt/big area granule.Rock act environment(swamp/pond).Slowed moved water.Gone(strong wave action).Stay settle(bottom).Held thin level tier.Shale bust slim layer.Small sedimentary rock w/ low porosity. Fence stop move:groundwater/oil.
evaporites Tier element sedimentary rock form.Formed=arid area/drainage basin continent.Low water flow.Low freshwater flow at area.vigilance(faded)Alloy stay tall.Faded alloy lug basin, drying undo freshwater/keep alloy vigilance. Tier drying alloy save basin floor.
Biochemical Sedimentary Rocks Made remains/dead organism. Ample:limestone(composed: calcite).Creature home:water.calcium carbonate stops sea aqua(Form shells).Creature dies:shell settle:ocean bottom/Made big tiers;carbonate sediment.@burial/solids,(CaCa)dries aqua,harden grain(CS):LS

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
