| Renewable Resource | a natural resource that can be replenished by natural processes as quickly as it is used |
| nuclear energy | energy stored in and released from the nucleus |
| reclamation | a process in which mined land must be recovered with soil and replanted with vegetation |
| solar energy | energy from the sun |
| wind farm | a group of wind turbines that produce electricity |
| hydroelectric | electricity produced by flowing water |
| geothermal energy | thermal energy from earth's interior |
| biomass energy | energy produced by burning organic matter, such as wood, food scraps, and alcohol |
| ores | a deposit of minerals that is large enough to be mined for a profit |
| deforestation | the removal of large areas of forests for human purposes |
| Photochemical smog | air pollution that forms from the interaction between chemicals in the air and sunlight |
| acid precipitation | precipitation that has a lower pH that of normal rainwater |
