plant test pt 1

these r only the first half of the plant notes!

characteristics of plants kingdom plantae, eukaryotic, photosynthetic, cell walls contain cellulose
sunlight necessary for photosynthesis
gas exchange oxygen - cellular respiration carbon dioxide - photosynthesis
water + minerals water - photosynthesis minerals - growth
alternation of generations diploid to haploid, 2 alternating phases
what are the two alternating phases? sporophyte, gametophyte
sporophyte multicellular diploid phase (spore producing)
gametophyte multicellular haploid phase (gamete producing plant)
examples of seedless plants green algae, mosses, ferns
green algae life cycle uses... alternation of generations
if environmental conditions are suitable it stays in the.. haploid stage and undergoes mitosis
if environmental conditions are unsuitable.. it will reproduce sexually
bryophytes - mosses - uses alternation of generations - have specialized reproductive structures - have higher degree of cell specialization
bryophyte life cycle has what stages? gametophyte stage, sporophyte stage
gametophyte stage gametes formed at the tip (some species have both gametes, others have separate plants for each)
sporophyte stage - grows out of gametophyte - depends on gametophyte for nutrients - produces haploid spores
example of tracheophytes: ferns
what are the 2 types of tube-like vascular tissue in tracheophytes xylem, phloem
xylem carries water up from roots
phloem transports nutrients from photosynthesis throughout the plant
tracheophyte life cycle - diploid sporophyte stage is the most dominant - produces spores that become gametophytes - gametophyte grows independently from the sporophyte, unlike mosses
seed plants examples conifers, flowers
gymnosperms - produce seeds on the scales of cones - produce two types of cone
pollen cones male; produce pollen grains (haploid male gametophyte)
seed cones female; produce egg cells (haploid female gametophyte) - fertilization produces a diploid zygote which grows into a new sporophyte plant

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
