QuestionAnswer
Why does Earth experience 4 seasons? combination of Earth's rotation on it's TILTED axis and its revolution around the sun.
What does the tilt of Earth's axis cause? our 4 seasons
revolution the Earth moving along its orbit around the sun
Spring (vernal) Equinox N. Hemisphere doesn't tilt towards or away from sun
What day does the Spring Equinox occur? March 21st (equal day and night)
gravity The attractive force between 2 objects
how long does it take the moon to make one revolution around Earth? about 1 month
What day does the summer solstice occur on? June 21st (longest day)
axis an imaginary line which passes through Earth
What is the tilt of Earth's axis 23 1/2 degrees
inertia tendency of a moving object to continue in a straight line or a stationary object to remain still
How do the forces in our Solar System work together to keep Earth and other objects in motion around the sun gravity keeps Earth on its orbital path while inertia keeps the Earth constantly revolving around the sun.
Winter Solstice Norther Hemisphere; tilts away from the sun and receives less direct sunlight.
Fall (Autumnal) Equinox N. Hemisphere; doesn't tilt towards or away from the sun
Summer Solstice N. Hemisphere; tilts toward sun and receives more direct sunlight
Why do we see the moon differently throughout a given month? the position of the moon changes which affects how much sunlight we see reflecting off the moon.
What day does the winter solstice occur? December 21st (shortest day)
Why do we experience a leap year every 4 years? after 4 years, the extra 1/4 days add up to 1 full extra day
how long does it take for Earth to make one Revolution around the sun? 365 1/4 days
What day does the fall equinox occur? September 21st (equal day and night)
what does earth's rotation cause day and night
rotation the earth spinning on its axis
Heliocentric Theory model with the sun at the center and planets revolve
how long it takes for the Earth to make one rotation 24 hours
Geocentric Theory model with the Earth at the center and sun and planets revolve
