low pressure system a large body of rising air moving counterclockwise that brings clouds and precipitation
arctic air mass forms over Siberia and the Arctic and contains bitterly cold, dry air.
continental polar air mass fast moving dry and cold air mass that brings cold temps in the winter and cool weather in summer
maritime polar air mass wet and cold air mass that brings cloudy, rainy weather
continental tropical air mass hot and dry air mass that bring clear skies and high temps. Usually form in the summer
maritime tropical air mass moist air mass that bring hot humid air to the southeastern U.S.
cold front when a dense fast moving cold air mass pushes underneath a less dense warm air mass causing clouds to form which bring heavy rain and thunderstorms
warm front when a less dense slow moving air mass glides over a cold air mass causing wide blankets of clouds to form that bring steady rainfall.
stationary front when a cold air mass and a warm air mass meet and are equally matched.
occluded front a cold air mass is already in place and a warm air mass slowly tries to glide over top but a bigger much faster moving cold air mass pushes underneath sending both of the others up in the atmosphere
