upper cartilage acts as a flap, with swallowing, it prevents food, air or fluid from entering into the larynx and going into trachea epiglottis
composed of muscle and elastic ligaments covered by mucus membrane. located on either side of glottis, below the epiglottis, vibrates and produces sounds vocal cords
transports air from upper airway to brochi and lungs trachea
paired organs located on either sides of the heart, encircled and protected by the rib cage. lungs
bottom portion of lungs, sits on diaphragm base
superior tip of lungs at level of clavicle apex
indentation on medial surface of each lung where primary bronchus and pulmonary artery and vein enter lungs hilus
pleura-serous membrane that lines chest wall parietal
pleura-serous membrane lies on surface of lungs visceral
