Natural Resource Anything that occurs naturally in the environment that humans use
Nonrenewable Resource A natural resource that cannot be replenished in a useful time frame
Renewable Resource A resource that is either always available or is naturally replaced in a relatively short time
Fossil Fuel Energy-rich substance formed the remains of organisms
Nuclear Fission The splitting of an atom’s nucleus into two nuclei, which releases a great deal of energy
Coal Formed from the remains of plants that died long ago in and around swampy area. It's a nonrenewable resource
Oil (Petroleum) Made of the remains of small animals, algae, and other organisms that lived in marine environments hundreds of million of years ago
Natural Gas Formed from the same processes that produce oil and found in the same locations, natural gas is trapped in pockets within layers of rock deep below Earth’s surface
Solar Energy Solar cells convert sunlight into usable energy and store in batteries future use
Wind Energy Wind turbines power generators in wind energy
Geothermal Energy Uses steam produced by the heat of the Earth to produce energy
Advantages of wind power Wind Energy produces no greenhouse gases (Clean source of energy), t’s mostly environment friendly, It’s a renewable energy source, It is less expensive than coal powder in many parts of the world, It’s the fastest growing energy source in the world
Disadvantages of wind power There is limited technology, there is visual pollution, wind is not always a steady energy source, turbines can be dangerous to birds and bats because they can crash into the blades, wind energy can’t be used for all of your electronic needs
