QuestionAnswer
Ventilation -occurs as air moves into and out of the respiratory system through inspiration and exhalation. -filter and humidify the air coming in.
Perfusion -gas exchange between O2 and CO2 at the alveoli- capillary membrane.
Diffusion -movement of solutes from and area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Respiration -exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide at the alveolar level. - the area of contact is known as the respiratory membrane (the membrane allows for diffusion oxygen into the red blood cells & carbon dioxide into the alveoli).
Incentive Spirometer - used to assist pt with deep breathing. This encourages the pt to breathe slowly & deeply allowing the lungs to expand -When the alveoli expand it ↓ risk for collapse & assists with oxygenation.
