Experiment Variables

QuestionAnswer
another name for the dependent variable responding variable
another name for the independent variable manipulated variable
variables (factors) in an experiment that are kept constant from trial to trial because they might have an effect on the dependent/responding variable controlled variables
the trial that is used as a frame of reference (all other trials are compared back to it); the most "normal" trial control or control group
all other trials except for the control group (these have the independent variable changed for them) experimental group(s)
the variable (factor) that the experimenter changes on purpose from trial to trial (it is the CAUSE) independent variable
the variable (factor) that "responds" to the change in the independent variable (it is the "EFFECT"); usually what the experimenter is making observations/collecting data about dependent variable
an educated guess/prediction about what will happen during an experiment and why it will happen hypothesis
