Abiotic and biotic study stack for science

What is an abiotic factor? A non living factor in an ecosystem
What is a biotic factor? A living or once living factor in an ecosystem
What is a POPULATION? All the INDIVIDUALS of a given species in an area at a given time
What is a COMMUNITY? The populations of organisms of different species in a given area
What is an ECOSYSTEM? All the living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) factors in an area
what is a limiting factor? A factor that limits the amount of living things that live there
What are some examples of limiting factors? sun, temperature, soil, water, changing conditions
What is biodiversity? the variety of life across levels of ecological organization
what does biodiversity include? genetic diversity, species diversity, ecological diversity
What is genetic diversity? the variation in genes that exist within a species
What is species diversity? The number of species and abundance of each species that live in a particular location
What is ecological (ecosystem) diversity? The variety of ways that species interact with each other and their environment
What are the benefits or biodiversity? Boots ecosystem productivity
What are ecosystem services? Protection of water services, soil formation and protection, nutrient storage and recycling, pollution breakdown and absorption, contribution to climate stability, maintenance of ecosystems, recovery from unpredictable
What are biological resources? food, medicinal resources and pharmaceutical drugs, wood products, ornamental plants, breeding stocks, population reservoirs, future resources, diversity in genes, species and ecosystems.
What are social benefits? research, education and monitoring, recreation and tourism, cultural values.
