Weather The condition of Earth's atmosphere at a particular time and place
Climate The characteristic weather conditions in an ares over a long period of time
Altitude The distance above sea level
Air pressure The force of air molecules pushing on an area
Density A property of matter representing mass per unit volume
Barometer An instrument that measures air pressure in the atmosphere
Atmosphere The envelope of gases that surrounds a planet
Troposphere The layer of the atmosphere nearest Earth's surface that weather occurs
Stratosphere the second layer of the atmosphere above the Earth that contains the ozone layer
Mesosphere the third layer of the atmosphere that most meteors burn up in
Thermosphere the 4th layer of the atmosphere that includes the Northern Lights
Exosphere the outer layer of the thermosphere that extends in space. Satellites are in this layer
Ionosphere The lower layer of the thermosphere
Greenhouse Effect the process in which certain gases in a planet's atmosphere absorb and emit infrared radiation, resulting in an increase in surface temperature
Ozone A gas molecule that consists of three oxygen atoms
Radiation Energy that travels across distances as certain types of waves
Convection The transfer of energy from place to place by the motion of gas or liquid
Conduction The transfer of energy from one substance to another by direct contact
Anemometer An instrument used to measure the speed of wind
Wind vane A device that measures the direction of wind
Thermometer An instrument for measuring and indicating temperature
