Meiosis Study

Meiosis

QuestionAnswer
Meiosis (Gametogenesis) Cell division in sexual reproduction. Interphase, prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase I, telophase I, cytokinesis, interphase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, and telophase II. Ipmat.
Meiosis I When the homologous chromosomes separate and the first four stages of division.
Meiosis II Is when sister chromatids separate and the last four stages of division.
Diploid Cell (2n) When you have 23 chromosomes from both parents. Represented as a X. (Giving 2) Are 4 cells. Meiosis.
Haploid (Monoploid) Cell (n) Is when you have 46 chromosomes from one parent. Represented as an I. (Giving 1) Are 2 cells. Mitosis.
Spermatogenesis When sperm do mitotic or meiotic divisions.
Oogenesis The time it takes to mature an egg from the ovary.
Tetrad When similar chromosomes make four.
Disjunction When the homologous chromosomes split to the opposite sides of the cell.
Polar Bodies A non mature egg cell does meiosis I so their DNA is the same.
Crossing Over When the homologous chromosomes trade DNA for prophase I.
Independent Assortment When homologous chromosomes split by themselves.
Nondisjunction When DNA structures do not separate. The egg and sperm do not have the regular amount of chromosomes.
Karyotype A photo of a pair of DNA.
Amniocentesis Before the baby is born, amniotic yellow fluid is used to find genetic mistakes of the fertilized egg.
Monosomy When you have one less chromosome.
Trisomy When you have an extra chromosome.
Klinefelter Syndrome When a male is made accompanied by a secondary X.
Turner Syndrome Happens in females and they are missing the y chromosome.
Down Syndrome When chromosome 21 is extra or limited done.
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase I: Introduction P: Point M: (Meta) Line A. Away T. Time of when it's finished
Homologous Chromosomes One from both genders. They have the same genes.
Sister Chromatids Twin duplicates of DNA.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
