What is the scientific method? A method of investigation involving observation and theory to test scientific hypotheses
Put the following in order: make a hypothesis, draw a conclusion, do the experiment, make an observation, analyze data, interpret results. Make an observation, make a hypothesis, do the experiment, analyze data, interpret results, and draw a conclusion.
What is a controlled experiment? One where only one variable is changed and all the others stay constant.
What is an independent or manipulated variable? The variable that is deliberately changed (you change it)
What is a dependent or responding variable? The variable that changes in response to the manipulated variable. It can be observed and measured!
What are some characteristics a good scientist should exhibit? Curiosity, skepticism, open-mindedness, and creativity.
Why is peer review important to the scientific community? Scientists are able to share their ideas and their experiments are checked for accuracy, fraud, and mistakes. Other scientists might form new ideas after reading a paper.
What is the difference between a hypothesis and a theory? A hypothesis is a message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence. A theory is a well-tested explanation that unifies a broad range of observations and hypotheses.
