Osmosis & Diffusion
A studystack about Osmosis, Diffusion, and other science terms.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Diffusion | A physical process where molecules of a material move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. |
| Osmosis | Movement of water molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration. |
| Hypertonic | An area with more salt than water. |
| Hypotonic | An area with more water than salt. |
| Isotonic | Perfect levels of water and salt. |
| Passive Transport | Movement of molecules across the cell membrane. No energy required. |
| Active Transport | Movement of molecules across the cell membrane using ATP energy. Energy Required |
| Homeostasis | Ability to keep a stable temperature. |
| Molecule | Building blocks of life. |
| Selectively Permeable | Only lets certain things past. |
| High Concentration | High concentration of salt. |
| Low Concentration | Low concentration of salt. |
| ATP Energy | Energy created by a cell |
