Osmosis & Diffusion

Diffusion A physical process where molecules of a material move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Osmosis Movement of water molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration.
Hypertonic An area with more salt than water.
Hypotonic An area with more water than salt.
Isotonic Perfect levels of water and salt.
Passive Transport Movement of molecules across the cell membrane. No energy required.
Active Transport Movement of molecules across the cell membrane using ATP energy. Energy Required
Homeostasis Ability to keep a stable temperature.
Molecule Building blocks of life.
Selectively Permeable Only lets certain things past.
High Concentration High concentration of salt.
Low Concentration Low concentration of salt.
ATP Energy Energy created by a cell
Solute The substance that is being dissolved.
Solvent The dissolving medium.
