Terms to Know

geologist a person who studies rocks and minerals and a person who studies how earths crust and how it changes over time.
mineral a solid, nonliving material found in nature that has a defiinite chemical makeup .
rock a solid, nonliving material found in nature that is mad up of minerals.
lava melted rock above the above the surface
magma melted rock below the surface
sedimentary rock formed when sediments are compacted and cemented together over a long period of time , often tells us about the past
metamorphic rock formed under the earth´s surface when hate and presser are applied
Igneous Rock formed when magma cools. 2 Types-Intrusive(formed inside the Earth) and Extrusive(formed outside the Earth)
Uplift vertical elevation of the Earth's surface in response to natural causes
Weathering breaking down rock into smaller pieces (sediment)
Erosion moving of broken down rock by wind, water, ice, gravity
Deposition the laying down of sediment carried by wind, flowing water, the sea or ice.
