adaption a special trait, body part, or behavior that helps an organism survive in its environment
camouflage to conceal by means of disguise; uses color to blend in with the environment
carnivore animal that eats meat only
consumer an organism which must consume/eat other organisms (must rely on other living things for food)
habitat the type of environment in which an organism normally lives
herbivore an animal that eats only plants
hibernate/hibernations to pass the winter in a resting or very deep sleep-like state during freezing weather
life cycle the changes undergone by an organism in its development, the stages every living organism goes through
metamorphosis when an animal goes through different stages and changes into something else; any marked change i the form and structure of an animal in its development
migration is a seasonal movement for temperature or to give birth; to travel as a group from one place to live in another
mimicry an animal's ability to copy another living thing to help it survive
photosynethesis process by which plants use the Sun's energy to make food
predator an animal that captures other animals for food
prey an animal that is captured and eaten by another animal (predator)
producer an organism that can make its own food; plants are producers
scavenger an organism that eats dead plants or animals' scaverngers are consumers.
