Fundamental Skills in Support Services

bar code scanner a device that captures a printed series of numbered black bars and spaces, translates them into numbers and letters, and sends the data to a computer to access information about a patient or product.
fluid balance term for a state in which the amount of fluid taken into the body equals the amount of fluid that leaves the body.
intake and output (I&O) term for measurements of all the fluids that enter and leave the body.
interoperability the ability to exchange and use computer information within and across networks.
portion the amount of food in one serving.
quick response(QR) code a two-dimensional bar code that is used to provide easy access to information through a smartphone; also known as quick read code.
radio frequency identification (RFID) a data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data.
solutions uniform mixtures of two or more substances, which may be solids, liquids, gases, or a combination of these.
tare weight the weight of an empty container.
technical reading a skill used to comprehend science, business, or technology publications.
technical writing a type of writing used in the workplace to inform or persuade a specific audience.
unit cost the price of one measurable unit of a food item, such as 1 pound, 1 ounce, or 1 piece.
yield the number of portions a recipe will produce.
