| fluid balance | term for a state in which the amount of fluid taken into the body equals the amount of fluid that leaves the body. |
| intake and output (I&O) | term for measurements of all the fluids that enter and leave the body. |
| interoperability | the ability to exchange and use computer information within and across networks. |
| portion | the amount of food in one serving. |
| quick response(QR) code | a two-dimensional bar code that is used to provide easy access to information through a smartphone; also known as quick read code. |
| radio frequency identification (RFID) | a data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. |
| solutions | uniform mixtures of two or more substances, which may be solids, liquids, gases, or a combination of these. |
| tare weight | the weight of an empty container. |
| technical reading | a skill used to comprehend science, business, or technology publications. |
| technical writing | a type of writing used in the workplace to inform or persuade a specific audience. |
| unit cost | the price of one measurable unit of a food item, such as 1 pound, 1 ounce, or 1 piece. |
| yield | the number of portions a recipe will produce. |
