Hertzprung-Russell Diagram
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Brightness | Increases as you move toward the top of the graph. |
| Temperature | Increases as you move toward the left side of the chart. |
| Colors of the star from hottest to coolest | Blue, White, Yellow, Red-Orange, Red |
| The Sun | Has average mass is average brightness and temperature. |
| Categories Included | 4;Main Sequence, Giants, Supergiants, and White Dwarfs |
| Main Sequence | Main Sequence stars can range from hot to bright(top-left) to cool and dim(bottom-right)[diagonally from bottom-right to top-left] |
| Giants | Giant stars are typically cooler stars that are average in brightness.[left-middle] |
| Supergiants | Supergiants are extremely bright and can range from hot to cool.[top layer] |
| White Dwarfs | White dwarfs are extremely dim and typically average to hot in temperature.[bottom-mid to left] |
| HR Diagram | A chart that graphs a star's brightness and temperature. |
| Absolute Magnitude | How bright a star actually is from the same distance all lined up. |
