| How are galaxies clasified? | By shape |
| What is known of the observable universe? | It is about 46 billion light years away and is constantly expanding-the distance between astronomical objects is increasing as time goes by. |
| What is a galaxy? | A huge system of millions or billions of star, together with gas and dust, held together by gravity |
| What is known of the milky way galaxy? | It is a spiral galaxy containing over 200 billion stars. It is abou 100,000 light years in diameter. We live in the Orion Arm. |
| What are spiral galaxies? | Flat, disk-shaped galaxy which is about 72% of all galaxies. It has "arms" and mostly contain a central black hole. |
| What are elliptical galaxies? | Smooth, circular galaxies that make up 1/3 of all galaxies. Most contain older, low-mass stars. |
| What are irregular galaxies? | Random, scattered galaxy that form less than 5% of galaxies. They don't form a distinct shape or pattern |
