Galaxies

What is the Universe? All of space and everything in it.
How are galaxies clasified? By shape
What is known of the observable universe? It is about 46 billion light years away and is constantly expanding-the distance between astronomical objects is increasing as time goes by.
What is a galaxy? A huge system of millions or billions of star, together with gas and dust, held together by gravity
What is known of the milky way galaxy? It is a spiral galaxy containing over 200 billion stars. It is abou 100,000 light years in diameter. We live in the Orion Arm.
What are spiral galaxies? Flat, disk-shaped galaxy which is about 72% of all galaxies. It has "arms" and mostly contain a central black hole.
What are elliptical galaxies? Smooth, circular galaxies that make up 1/3 of all galaxies. Most contain older, low-mass stars.
What are irregular galaxies? Random, scattered galaxy that form less than 5% of galaxies. They don't form a distinct shape or pattern
What are the types of galaxies? Spiral,Elliptical, and Irregular
List the following entities in space from largest to smallest-Solar System, Universe, Planet, Galaxy Universe, Galaxy, Solar System, Planet
What is a light year? The distance light travels in a year.
What is in the center of every galaxy? A black hole
