Astronomy study stack

TermDefinition
Asteroid A large object in space that obits the sun-smaller than planets and composed of rock and metal
Comet Chunks of ice and dust travelling through the solar system. They orbit the sun in a long elliptical trail
Meteoroid A rocky object that orbits the sun-much smaller than asteroids. They are often composed of nickel and iron. (most are about the size of a pebble)
Meteor A meteoroid that has entered earth's atmosphere. produces a streak of light in the sky, often referred to as a shooting star.
Meteorite A meteor that has hit or landed on earth's surface. Most meteorites are made up of stone and iron.
