HYPOKALEMIA

What is hypokalemia? K level less than 3.5 meq/L.
What are the causes of hypokalemia? ALKALOSIS, DIURETIC THERAPY, ENDOCRINE DYSFUNCTION (increased ACTH, thyroid storm), RENAL DYSFUNCTION.
What are the clinical signs of hypokalemia? Many of the same signs as hyperkalemia, GENERAL MALAISE, MUSCLE WEAKNESS.
What are the effects of hypokalemia on ECG? U wave is prominent, depression or flattening of the ST segment, oor inversion of T wave.
What is the treatment for hypokalemia? SLOW IV INFUSION OF POTASSIUM CHLORIDE.
