Absolute Dating | any method of measuring the age of an event or object in years |
Radioactive Decay | the process in which a radioactive isotope tends to break down into a stable isotope of the same element or another element |
Half-Life | the time required for half of a sample of a radioactive isotope to break down by radioactive decay to form a daughter isotope |
Radiometric Dating | a method of determining the absolute age of an object by comparing the relative percentages of a radioactive (parent) isotope and a stable (daughter) isotope |
Radiocarbon Dating | the combination of different amounts carbon dioxides used to figure out the ages of wood, bones, shells, and other organic remains |
Potassium Argon Dating | The combination of different amounts of Potassium and Argon used to figure out the ages of ingneous volcanic rocks |
Uranium-Lead Dating | The combination of different amounts of Uranium and Lead used to figure out the ages of rocks between 100 million years and billions of years old. |
Geology | the scientific study of the origin, history, and structure of Earth ant the processes that shape it |
Geological Time Scale | the standard method used to divide Earth's log natural history into manageable parts |
