| Term | Definition |

| Extrinsic eye muscles | skeletal muscles that attach to the outside of the eyeball and to the bones of the orbit. |
| Intrinsic eye muscles | are smooth,or involuntary , muscles located within the eye. |
| Retina | is the incomplete innermost coat of the eyeball |
| Refraction | is the deflection, or bending of light rays |
| Prolactin | produced by acidophils in the pars anterior , also called lactogenic hormone |
| TSH | Thyroid Stimulating Hormone or thyrotropin, promotes and maintains the growth and development of its target gland-The Thyroid |
| Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) | promotes and maintains normal growth and development of the cortex of the adrenal gland. |
| Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) | stimulates structures within the ovaries , primary follicles , to grow toward maturity. |
| Luteinizing Hormone (LH) | stimulates the formation and activity of the corpus luteum of the ovary |
