| Amygdaloid nucleus | basal nucleus (region of gray matter of the deep cerebrum) at the tip of the caudate nucleus; alternate name of the amygdala. |
| Anterior corticospinal tract | coordinates individual or small groups of muscles (hands, fingers, feet, toes) of the same side. |
| Anterior spinothalamic tract | responds to crude touch and pressure . |
| Arbor vitae | internal white matter of the cerebellum. |
| Biological clock | internal timing mechanism that governs hunger, sleeping, reproduction, and behavior. |
| Brainstem | part of brain containing the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. |
| Cauda equina | lower end of spinal cord with its attached spinal nerve roots. |
| Caudate nucleus | one of the basal nuclei, gray matter areas in the inner region of the cerebrum of the brain. |
| Central sulcus | groove between frontal and parietal lobes of the cerebrum. |
| Cerebellum | second largest part of the human brain; plays an essential role in the production of normal movements. |
