Estuary Where freshwater meets salt water
Aquifer Large collection of potable ground water
Salinity Measure of salt in the water
Coliform bacteria present in water
tributary a branch of water that eventually connects to a major river
catalyst speeds up a reaction
stewardship Responsible use and care of earth's resources
Eutrophication High concentrations of nitrates that lead to an increase in algae growth
Upwelling deep sea nutrients rising to the surface
chemosynthesis process of converting chemicals into energy
Carbon Cycle organic circulation of carbon from the atmosphere into organisms and back again
Nitrogen Cycle transfer of nitrogen from the atmosphere to the soil, to living organisms, and back to the atmosphere
Turbidity Amount of solids present in a body of water
Dissolved Oxygen Oxygen present in water
Point Source Pollution Pollution coming from a specific identifiable source (factories, pipes, containers)
Nonpoint Source Pollution Pollution coming from many sources (runoff, agriculture pollution, farm pollution, urban runoff)
