TermDefinition
Wave An energy disturbance that transfers energy from place to place
Medium The material the wave is passing through
Crest The highest point of a transverse wave
Trough The lowest point of a transverse wave
Wavelength The distance between two crests or two troughs on a transverse wave
Amplitude The height or depth of a wave that determines how much energy the wave carries
Transverse Wave A mechanical wave that moves perpendicular to the direction of wave travel
Longitudinal Wave A mechanical wave that moves parallel to the direction of wave travel
Compression The part of the medium where particles are close together
Rarefaction The part of the medium where particles are far apart
